East Kimberley Regional Airport Master Plan

for Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley commissioned REHBEIN Airport Consulting to prepare a Master Plan for East Kimberley Regional Airport located in Kununurra, Western Australia. The plan provides a strategic framework for the future development of the airport over the next 10 to 25 years, through the development of passenger and aircraft movement forecasts, likely operating scenarios, future infrastructure requirements and concept layouts including both aeronautical and commercial development.

The Master Plan process involved consultation with a number of key stakeholders including the incumbent airlines and other airport users and tenants. Two runway location options were included within the Master Plan, including an extension to the existing runway and the development of a new runway, pending more detailed investigations into the current runway pavement condition.

Several commercial precincts were also included within the Master Plan to take advantage of the opportunities to create synergies with major developments currently occurring within the local economy, including the Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project and several resource industry projects.

An Australian Noise Exposure Forecast (ANEF) contour plan was developed for the proposed airport development, as well as an implementation plan identifying the most critical immediate infrastructure projects and highlighting the next steps in the infrastructure development process.
