for Orange City Council
REHBEIN Airport Consulting was commissioned by Orange City Council to prepare detailed design and tender documentation for civil engineering works associated with the Orange Airport Expansion Project.
The scope of services included progression of existing concept designs to detailed concept stage, taking into account overall longer-term airport master planning obejctives. This included consideration of ultimate runway and taxiway development, as well as the best long-term location for support facilities including an engine run-up bay, fuel storage and helicopter landing site. Further detailed planning was undertaken for a hangar lot development, and for car parking and terminal access arrangements. Final alignments for the relocation of 2.2km of adjacent rural road were also established, consistent with land acquisition objective and aerodrome obstacle restriction requirements.
Following confirmation of the detailed concept, documentation was progressed to construction tender stage covering earthworks, stormwater drainage, airfield pavements and lighting, roadworks and services. The works documented covered a runway extension of approximately 540m in length and 30m wide, an associated parallel taxiway, adjustments to the threshold of the 04 cross runway to accommodate both ot these, strengthening and widening of the existing taxiways A and B and approximately 6,000m2 expansion of the existing apron.
